Lightroom Keyword lists

Are you looking for keyword lists for wildlife and nature photographers? In 2012 I made a few Adobe keyword lists that still are very usable on newer versions of Adobe Lightroom. All keyword lists are hierarchically organized with the use of hidden keywords and synonyms to make the keyboarding as fast as possible. Four versions of the Birds of the World keyword lists are available below as well as two Lightroom keyword lists only for Norwegian photographers. Q&A – Which bird LR keyword list is best for me?

If you want to use UK bird names when keyboarding you should choose Birds of the World version 2.11C, 2.11E, or 2.11F. The main differences between these keyword lists are that in version 2.11E you will in addition get US names added as keywords to your bird images, and in version 2.11F also Norwegian names.

If you prefer to use US names when keywording, the answer is very simple: choose version 2.11D.

Q&A – How to import the new keyword list?

It is quite easy to import this keyword list into your structure. Download the keyword list to your computer and make sure you are in Library mode (type "G") in Adobe Lightroom. Select “Metadata” from the top menu, and scroll down to “Import Keywords”. Make sure you select the downloaded TXT file, and the whole keyword list will be uploaded to the root of your Keyword list (see image below).

Q&A – Why isn't the Keyword list based on the newest IOC version?

It is very time-consuming to update large keyword lists, and changes in the IOC World Bird list are happening every year. The Lightroom software doesn’t have any good system for importing new versions of a keyword list on top of older versions, which might cause some problems if the structure of the new version differs slightly. The 2012 version of the IOC World Bird list gives you a great overview of all the world's bird names, and you can update, add or remove keywords in the keyword list if there are any changes you want.
